President's
Address: Exceptional Members
By SCSHP President Gene Lew
It
is an honor for me to serve as the President of the Southern California
Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 2009. I would like to thank our
members for entrusting me with this responsibility. It is my goal to continue
the tradition of being part of the BEST local chapter of the California
Society of Health- System Pharmacists. The Southern California chapter
is fortunate that it has exceptional members, like you. I hope that our
members will continue to support our chapter by being active and renewing
their memberships. We exist because of YOU. But we also need your participation
in both implementation and attendance for successful programs. I am confident
that this coming year there will be a program that will offer our members
a full agenda of representation of current pharmacy issues and events.
AB 418 is the California Pharmacy Technician Patient Safety and Protection
Act, which is Spring 2009 Volume 17, Issue 1 being introduced to the State
Assembly to establish a single licensure standard for pharmacy technician
licensure. The impact of this bill, if passed, would be enormous because
licensed pharmacy technicians are valuable partners in pharmacy practice
and members of our organization. SCSHP will also be present at the CSHP
Legislative Day in April in Sacramento. The purpose of Legislative Day
is to meet with our elected officials to discuss pharmacy issues. We will
continue to have monthly dinner CE programs. In addition to these programs,
special CE programs are being planned, the details of which will be released
as soon as they become available. A joint activity with the San Fernando
Valley chapter is in the early planning stages, as well as a Saturday
half-day education program. Some of my goals for SCSHP for this coming
year are to become involved with activities such as Health Walks and Health
Fairs, and Food Drives and Toy Drives.
Upcoming Special CE Events:
May 19 - an event is planned at the new Meritage Hotel in
Beverly Hills.
June Special Program: Wine Tasting - a Temecula wine
tasting event with the San Fernando Valley chapter.
